The Personnel Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met in public session at 6:30pm on Monday, January 31, 2000, in the Courthouse Building, Police Jury Meeting Room, Crowley. All members were in attendance.

It was motioned and duly seconded that all action items contained in this report were taken, reviewed and discussed by the Personnel Committee and are to be presented as agenda items. Motion carried.

Discussion and/or action items to be considered are as follows:

A motion was offered and duly seconded to revise the agenda to consider advertising for maintenance employees. Motion carried.

A motion was offered and duly seconded to elect Mrs. Cecelia Broussard as Chair Person, by acclamation. Motion carried.

A motion was offered by Mrs. Catherine LaCombe, seconded by Mr. John Beard, to adjourn into executive session to consider discussion on the resignation of the Animal Control Officer.

Animal Control Officer Lorne Quebodeaux indicated his intent to discuss the matter in open session.

No vote was taken on the motion to adjourn into executive session.

Mr. Quebodeaux explained the reasons for tendering his resignation as an employee of the Parish indicating that there was lack of intervention on the part of a Police Juror as he executed his duties as Animal Control Officer.

President Claude Courville indicated that it may be important to consider fine-tuning the Parish Ordinance to prevent future situations such as these.

Mr. Quebodeaux noted that he would keep his employ until March 10th in order to provide transition in training for any new employee.

A motion was by Mrs. Catherine LaCombe, seconded by Mr. John Beard, to accept the resignation of the Animal Control Officer.

Juror John Beard asked the Committee to consider the possibility of going to a two week pay period.

A motion was offered and duly seconded to recommend that the Secretary, Chairman of the Committee and Payroll Clerk meet to determine the feasibility of such action. Motion carried.

Discussion ensued regarding Human Resource strategies.

President Claude Courville indicated that he wished to poll the members of the Jury to determine their feelings on the issue.

No formal action was recommended.

A motion was offered and duly seconded to advertise for the position of two truck drivers and one maintenance technician. Motion carried.

The Committee encouraged the President to call a special meeting to consider advertising for the replacement of the Animal Control Officer.

President Courville noted that the meeting would be called for 6:30 P.M., February 8th.

A motion was offered and duly seconded to authorize advertising for the position of Animal Control Officer. Motion carried.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO COME BEFORE THE COMMITTEE, THE PRESIDENT ADJOURNED THE MEETING UNTIL THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMITTEE MEETING.
