The
Road & Bridge Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met in
public session at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2001, in the
Courthouse Building, Police Jury Meeting Room, Crowley.
It was motioned and duly seconded that all action items contained in
this report were taken, reviewed and discussed by the Road & Bridge
Committee and are to be presented as agenda items. Motion carried.

The recent closure of the bridge located on the Acadia-Lafayette
Parish line over by Que Tortue prompted discussion with Lafayette
Parish to negotiate a means to repair the bridge. It was the
consensus of the Committee that representatives from each Parish are
to discuss plans to determine the extent of the repairs.
Parish Road Manager Robert Bergeaux presented information on
additional equipment that would enhance lifting capabilities of the
small Rubber Tire Tractor Load Backhoes.
The Committee recommended the purchase of three Backhoe Bucket
Attachments to improve lifting capabilities at an estimated cost of
$6,000.00.
Mr. Karl Aucoin, Parish Road Engineer, discussed the preparation of
preliminary plans for the upcoming road improvement project.
Subjects that were taken under advisement related to the condition
of bridges on proposed project roadways, wearing courses and
rights-of-way.
The Committee recommended that the Parish Engineers be authorized to
proceed with the preparation of preliminary plans and specifications
for Phase III Part A Road Improvements.
Juror Claude Courville requested that the Committee consider funding
repairs to a bridge located on Fournerat Road at an estimated cost
of $55,000.00. Mr. Courville explained that the bridge was recently
closed as a result of its deteriorated condition and also explained
that the adjacent bridge would be replaced in the Off-system Bridge
Rehabilitation Program and that this bridge be repaired at the same
time.
The Committee recommended that the Parish Engineer proceed with the
plans and specifications and repairs to the bridge on Fournerat Road
at an estimated cost of $55,000.00.
