The Personnel Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met in public session at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 29, 2004, in the Courthouse Building, Police Jury Meeting Room, Crowley.

It was motioned and duly seconded that all action items contained in this report were taken, reviewed and discussed by the Personnel Committee and are to be presented as agenda items. Motion carried.

Chairman Benoit explained the matter related to pay increases for Parish employees. He stated that in preparing for the 2005 Budget he urged that a non-discriminatory manner be considered to come up with a dollar figure for pay increases which would include some reclassification.

Juror Alton Stevenson expressed his concern for those who were he felt under paid.

The Committee recommended authorizing the structuring of a graduated pay system to provide for increases that would also include across the board pay raises for employees and present said proposal to the Finance Committee along with the fiscal note to be implemented January 1, 2005.

It was requested that the Deputy providing supervision under the Parish Inmate Program receive an increase in pay which would put him in line with other Sheriff Deputies doing similar work.

The Committee recommended requesting the Acadia Parish Sheriff to increase pay to Mr. Joe Touchet in the amount of $.86 per hour as Supervisor of the Inmate Program.

Juror A. J. Credeur expressed his concern for the applicants not considered for the Animal Control position.

It was noted that the Jurors were offered an opportunity to review the applications.

The Committee recommended the hiring of Mr. Brent Spell, as Assistant Animal Control Officer, at a starting pay of $7.00 per hour.

The Committee also recommended approving the hiring of Mr. Michael Bourque as Maintenance Tech Level D at a starting pay of $7.00 per hour.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. Cade Benoit, to amend the agenda to consider the termination of a Parish Road employee. The following roll call vote was cast: Yeas: Alton Stevenson and Cade Benoit. Nays: None.

The Committee recommended authorizing the termination of Mr. John Lawson as a probationary employee.

The Committee authorized the hiring of Ms. Susan Lewis and Mr. Christopher Francis and as Maintenance Tech Level D Truck Drivers at a starting pay of $7.50 per hour and further authorizing the Road Manager to make location assignments for each.

The Director of Operations formally requested the Committee consider merit pay raises for Mrs. Kim Boudreaux and Mrs. Mary Murphy. He indicated that additional work responsibilities were assumed by both and he urged that they be considered in line for merit increases.

The Committee recommended tabling action relative to request for merit pay raises.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO COME BEFORE THE COMMITTEE, THE CHAIRMAN ADJOURNED THE MEETING UNTIL THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMITTEE MEETING.
