The Mosquito Control Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met in public session at 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, in the Courthouse Building, Police Jury Meeting Room, Crowley.

It was motioned and duly seconded that all action items contained in this report were taken, reviewed and discussed by the Mosquito Control Committee and are to be presented as agenda items. Motion carried.

Mosquito Control Director Antoinette Derouen reported on recent activities since Hurricane Rita.

Mrs. Derouen indicated that four treatments were made in a period of two weeks. She also noted that the cost associated with the treatments would be reimbursed by FEMA for the first 34 days provided it was approved by the Department of Health and Hospitals.

Mr. Larry Landry with Landry Aero advised of options to repair the mosquito control aircraft. He gave estimates of replacing the engine with new or used parts. Mr. Landry recommended that a new engine be placed in the aircraft at an estimated cost of $44,000.00.

The Committee recommended authorizing repairs to the mosquito control aircraft at an estimated cost of $44,000 and further provide funding as an amendment to the 2005 Budget.

Dr. James Rumore, local veterinarian, explained the current situation with the West Nile Virus. He noted that there were no equine cases as a result of the intense vaccinations.

SECRETARY The Solid Waste/Environmental Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met in public session immediately following the Mosquito Control Committee Meeting on Tuesday, October 11, 2005, in the Courthouse Building, Police Jury Meeting Room, Crowley.

The Committee recommended authorizing the demolition of condemned structure located at 155 Kay Drive in Clearview Subdivision.

Chairman A. J. Broussard reported on a complaint due to high levels of noise and activity at the new Lowe’s Construction Site.

The Committee recommended that a letter requesting attention to the matter be sent by the Secretary to the Lowe’s company.

The Committee recommended authorizing holiday pay for the days of September 27, 28, 2005, as a result of Hurricane Rita.

The Committee also recommended approving the finance report and the payment of bills for the month of October.

It was motioned and duly seconded that all action items contained in this report were taken, reviewed and discussed by the Public Works/Road & Bridge Committee and are to be presented as agenda items. Motion carried.

The agenda was revised to consider equipment repair and/or purchase.

The Parish Road Manager presented a series of possible drainage projects designed for Mary Rosa, Cole Gully, Harvest and Lafosse Roads. The projects were estimated to cost $4,318.00.

The Committee approved drainage projects 2005-8, 9 & 10 on Mary Rosa, Cole Gully, Harvest and Lafosse Roads.

Engineer Ryan Fuselier with Fenstermaker & Associates presented the only bid submitted to repair the bridge on Istre Road. He indicated that the bid including consulting was estimated to cost $207,500.00.

The Committee recommended approving the award of bid as negotiated to E. B. Feucht & Sons to construct improvements to Istre Road bridge.

No action was taken relative to setting a load limit on Stewartville Road.

Engineers with Aucoin & Associates provided an update on the Parishwide asphalt patching project acknowledging the overrun in the amount of $178,292.00 to date.

The Committee authorized the completion of parishwide asphalt patching acknowledging the overrun to date in the amount of $178,292.00.

The Committee authorized advertising to purchase one new gradall unit and further authorize the reallocation of road construction funds to supplement the 2005 budget.
