The Building & Grounds Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met at 6:30 P.M., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Police Jury Meeting Room. Present were Mr. John Quebodeaux, Chairman, Mr. Felton Moreau and Mr. Alton Stevenson.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to authorize the Secretary-Treasurer and Mr. Eby Henry, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, to remove jail cells, etc. from the old jail facility.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to authorize the President to enter into a contract with C & J Commercial Cleaning Services as per the proposal submitted by Mr. Fred Maraist. The Contract is $6,326.42 per month with a one-time initial clean of $11,995.00.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to instruct the Secretary-Treasurer to contact Acadian Elevator, Inc., and negotiate a firm price for installation of a new elevator for the Acadia Parish Courthouse. The Secretary-Treasurer is to find out about the warranty period and the amount of time it will take to remove the old elevator and install a new elevator.

The Mosquito Control Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met at 7:10 P.M., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Police Jury Meeting Room. Present were Mr. Felton Moreau, Chairman, Mr. Kermit Richard and Mr. Cade Benoit.

A motion was offered by Mr. Cade Benoit, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, with Mr. Kermit Richard voting no, to recommend extending the current contract with MCCI from June 10, 2008 to July 10, 2008, and to instruct the Secretary-Treasurer to advertise for proposals for a permanent contract.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS TO COME BEFORE THE COMMITTEE, THE CHAIRMAN ADJOURNED THE MEETING UNTIL THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED COMMITTEE MEETING.

The Road & Bridge Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met at 8:40 P.M., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Police Jury Meeting Room. Present were Mr. Cade Benoit, Chairman, Mr. Felton Moreau and Mr. Kermit Richard.

A motion was offered by Mr. Kermit Richard, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to add discussion regarding Connie Road to the agenda.

A motion was offered by Mr. Cade Benoit, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to place a 25 mph speed limit on Civil Road.

A motion was offered by Mr. Kermit Richard, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to authorize the placement of culverts to replace a bridge on Connie Road contingent upon the approval of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

The Solid Waste Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met following the Road & Bridge Committee on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Police Jury Meeting Room. Present were Mr. Felton Moreau, Chairman and Mr. Alton Stevenson and Mr. A. J. Broussard.

A motion was offered by Mr. A. J. Broussard, seconded by Mr. Alton Stevenson, to add an agenda item regarding debris removal contract.

A motion was offered by Mr. A. J. Broussard, seconded by Mr. Alton Stevenson, that a new dozer be purchased for the Acadia Parish Landfill at a cost of $280,000.00.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. A. J. Broussard, to authorize the President to sign and submit a landfill permit modification for the re-location of the vegetative matter.

A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mr. A. J. Broussard, to authorize the President to sign a contract extension with D & J Enterprises, Inc., for debris removal services.

The Finance Committee of the Acadia Parish Police Jury met at 10:30 P.M., on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in the Police Jury Meeting. Present were Mr. Cade Benoit, Chairman, Mr. Thomas Sonnier and Mr.  Felton Moreau.

A motion was offered by Mr. Thomas Sonnier, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to recommend adopting the Acadiana Crime Lab Budget for 2008 in the amount of $1,993,310.

A motion was offered by Mr. Felton Moreau, seconded by Mr. Thomas Sonnier, to hire Melissa Fusilier as a full-time employee at a salary of $400.00 per week to work at the Acadia Rice Arena provided all hiring requirements are met.

A motion offered by Mr. Felton Moreau, seconded by Mr. Thomas Sonnier, directing the President and Secretary-Treasurer to sign and submit the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire in conjunction with the 2007 Audit.

A motion was offered by Mr. Thomas Sonnier, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to authorize the Secretary-Treasurer to advertise for the sale of the following equipment which is to be declared as surplus equipment:

1991 Dodge Pickup
1997 Ford Pickup
2004 F-150 4 X 2
2004 F-150 4 X 2
G3WD Gradall Hydraulic Excavator

A motion was offered by Mr. Thomas Sonnier, seconded by Mr. Felton Moreau, to instruct the Secretary-Treasurer to obtain information from other parishes regarding the fees paid to their Official Journal for legal advertising.
