DUTIES AND FUNCTION OF PARISH ROAD MANAGER:

Plan, organize, supervise, and inspect the work of a large number of personnel, including road crews and district managers who are engaged in road, bridge, drainage, right-of-way, and other public works and maintenance including pothole patching, grading of gravel roads, road signs, and herbicide application.

Review and oversee the work of district managers and advise on policies, procedures, practices, and problems of unusual nature.

Confer with property owners, contractors, and the general public relative to complaints and requests.

Instruct personnel and district managers in safety procedures with quarterly safety meetings.  Compile cost estimates of materials (aggregate, bridge lumber, etc.).  Prepare budget and budget requests for the department.

Inspect construction work and recommend acceptance or rejection of projects.

CULVERT (DRIVEWAY) PERMIT

Who needs a permit?

Anyone outside the municipal limits of Acadia Parish who is planning on constructing a new driveway on a parish road.  (Those individuals that are planning a driveway on a State highway should contact the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development office at 337-788-7502.)

Is there a fee for the permit?

No. There is no fee for a culvert permit.

Where do I get the permit?

Permits may be obtained at the Road Department at 1528 West 2nd Street, (Hwy. 90) in Crowley.  Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The phone number is 337-788-8861.

At the time you apply for your culvert permit, you will be given two flags to put out where the proposed driveway is to be constructed.  A representative of the parish road department will go out and do a site inspection and make a size determination.  The information will then be reported to the office and you will be notified by telephone of the correct size.  The permit will then be mailed.

ROAD USE PERMIT

Who needs a permit?

Any individual, partnership, firm, or corporation planning on traveling, transporting, or hauling by using vehicles and/or trailers over any parish maintained roadways, roadside ditches, and other parish rights of way for any purpose.

Is there a fee for the permit?

Yes, the permit fee is $100.00.

All permit fees shall be payable by cash, check, or money order, and made payable to the Acadia Parish Police Jury.

Is a bond required?

Yes, it shall be in the amount of 10% of the project costs or a minimum of $5,000.00.  (Call Mary at 337-788-8861 for more information.)

Where do I get the permit?

PIPELINE (PROJECT) PERMIT

Who needs a permit?

Any individual, partnership, firm, or corporation planning on installing pipelines, irrigation lines, water lines, telecommunication cables, etc. within parish rights of way.

Is there a fee for the permit?

Yes.

$200.00 (initial minimum fee)
  + $15.00 per each road crossing
  + $15.00 per each stream crossing
  Parallel to right-of-way $15.00 per mile

A re-inspection of $30.00 per road crossing and stream crossing shall be charged where requirements of the permit are not met for the first inspection.

$50.00 (administration fee)

The amount of guarantee deposit required in connection with this permit shall be calculated from the following schedule.
