The
Acadia Parish Planning Commission met in regular session on Tuesday,
October 17, 2000 at 4:30 P.M. in the Police Jury Meeting Room, third
floor Courthouse Building, Crowley, LA.

In the absence of the Chairman, Vice Chairman John E. Hains called
the meeting to order.
A motion was offered by Florette Bergeron seconded by Betty Pousson
to approve the minutes of the September 19, 2000 meeting. Motion
carried.
The agenda was revised without objection to include Legal Counsel’s
opinion on Commission authority.
Engineer, Karl Aucoin provided comments on the preliminary
application submitted for Richard Subdivision. His checklist
included the following remarks:
a. Need for elevations
b. Response from Health Department
c. Agency responsible for maintenance along U. S. 90
d. Correct reviewing engineer
A motion was offered by Thomas Freeland, seconded by Betty Pousson
to approve the preliminary application for Richard Subdivision.
Stanley Clause, Public Health Sanitarian, expressed the need for
comprehensive drainage plans for each new subdivision.
Response from Parish Legal Counsel clarified the authority of both
the Police Jury and Planning Commission relative to defining
subdivisions for the purpose of addressing drainage problems. The
opinion stated that the Jury could amend the definition to include
developments containing large lots and require approval of drainage
plans.
Brief comments were offered by Stanley Clause explaining laws
regulating wastewater discharge and absorption.
The Commission was reminded that election of officers would be
scheduled for the next meeting on December 5, 2000.
