THE ACADIA PARISH POLICE JURY met on the above date at 6:30 p.m., in
the Police Jury Meeting Room, Courthouse Building, Crowley,
Louisiana, in regular session with the President, Claude Courville,
presiding. At the request of the President, a moment of silence was
offered and the Pledge to the Flag was recited in unison. The roll

A motion was offered by Mrs. Cecelia Broussard, seconded by Mrs.
Catherine LaCombe, to amend the agenda and consider the following:
approval of the preliminary plats for Quarter Pole Estates and to
set speed limits on Edmonia Drive and Mary Rosa Lane. Yeas: Alton
Stevenson, Catherine LaCombe, John Humble, Sr., Cecelia Broussard,
Jimmie Pellerin, John Beard, Pat Daigle and Claude Courville. Nays:
None. Motion carried.
A motion was offered by Mr. Jimmie Pellerin, seconded by Mr. Alton
Stevenson, to approve the Minutes of the May 1, 2001, Regular Police
Jury Meeting. Motion carried.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by
the Acadia Parish Police Jury in regular session duly convened this
15th day of May, 2001, does hereby accept said bids for the purchase
of materials, lubricants and services effective July 1, 2001, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that
the President is hereby authorized to execute on behalf of the
Acadia Parish Police Jury any and all contract agreements.

Action was deferred on the awarding of bids for corrugated metal
pipe and herbicide.
LEGISLATION
Legal Counsel André Doguet advised of recent developments regarding
the preparation of amended Ordinance #365 providing for regulations
governing vehicular traffic at the LeGros Memorial Airport and
announced that preparation for final adoption will take place at the
next regular meeting.
No formal action was required.
A motion was offered by Mrs. Cecelia Broussard, seconded by Mrs.
Catherine LaCombe, to approve the preliminary plat submitted by Mr.
Martin Zaunbrecher for Quarter Pole Estates. Motion carried.
PUBLIC FACILITIES/BUILDING & GROUNDS
Mr. John Quebodeaux, interim director for the Animal Control
Program, reported on his research into the permanent siting of the
Parish Animal Shelter. He indicated that ample space was found
adjacent to the Crowley Public Works Yard on West Hwy. 90
immediately behind the former Rice Museum, noting that it was a
convenient location for water and sewer. Mr. Quebodeaux recommended
that the Jury approve the permanent siting of the Parish Animal
Shelter at this location.
A motion was offered by Mr. Pat Daigle, seconded by Mr. John Humble,
Sr., to approve the recommendation made by Mr. John Quebodeaux to
permanently site the Parish Animal Shelter on the grounds between
the former Rice Museum and the Parish Public Works Yard on West Hwy.
90 and further authorized Mader-Miers Engineering to assist with
construction designs and the solicitation of bids for the project.
Motion carried.
A motion was offered by Mr. Alton Stevenson, seconded by Mrs.
Catherine LaCombe, to authorize the Secretary to notify Mr. Sidney
Thibodeaux of the decision to permanently site the Animal Shelter at
an alternate location and the change in interest to purchase
property on Roller Road. Motion carried.
PUBLIC WORKS/ROAD & BRIDGE
No action was taken to set permanent load limits on Tepetate Road.
RESOLUTION OF ACCEPTANCE
The following resolution was offered by Mr. John Humble, Sr., duly
seconded by Mr. Jimmie Pellerin, and duly resolved and adopted on
May 15, 2001.
A resolution authorizing and directing the President to execute for
and on behalf of the Acadia Parish Police Jury, an Act of Acceptance
for Coastal Timbers, Inc., Contractor, pertaining to the substantial
completion of the contract, bridge repairs on Perchville, Nation and
Benton Roads, in accordance with the plans and specifications
contained in the contract documents pertaining thereto.
WHEREAS, Coastal Timbers,
Inc., as Contractor, has substantially completed the bridge repairs
on Perchville, Nation and Benton Roads in accordance with the plans
and specifications contained in the contract documents pertaining
thereto; and
WHEREAS, the Acadia Parish
Police Jury desires to accept the completed work;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
by the Acadia Parish Police Jury that the President of said Acadia
Parish Police Jury be, and is hereby empowered, authorized and
directed to execute an Act of Acceptance for and on behalf of the
Acadia Parish Police Jury accepting the work as being substantially
completed, and that he be authorized and directed to have a copy of
said acceptance recorded in the Conveyance Records of the Parish of
Acadia, State of Louisiana.

AN ORDINANCE MAKING IT UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO OPERATE OR DRIVE A
MOTOR VEHICLE UPON EDMONIA DRIVE (PARISH ROAD 3-101) IN ACADIA
PARISH, LOUISIANA, AT A SPEED IN EXCESS OF TWENTY-FIVE MILES
PER HOUR, AND, PROVIDING FOR THE
PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION THEREOF.
SECTION 1. BE IT ORDAINED by
the Police Jury of Acadia Parish, Louisiana, that it shall be
unlawful for any person to operate or drive a motor vehicle in
excess of twenty-five miles per hour
on the following described Parish Road:
Edmonia Drive (Parish Road 3-101)
SECTION 2. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED
that any person found guilty of operating or driving a motor vehicle
in excess of twenty-five miles per hour
on the Parish road described above, shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon conviction therefore, shall be fined not more
than Fifty Dollars ($50) or be imprisoned not more than ten (10)
days or both.
SECTION 3. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED
that any laws or parts of laws in conflict are hereby repealed.
The Ordinance was offered by Mr. Pat Daigle, and seconded by Mrs.
Cecelia Broussard, after being read and considered section by
section, was adopted as a whole by the following vote:

LITIGATION
A motion was offered by Mr. John Humble, Sr., seconded by Mr. John
Beard, to adjourn into executive session to discuss pending
litigation with the Town of Duson, Docket #75,890E. The following
roll call vote was cast: Yeas: Alton Stevenson, Catherine LaCombe,

The President reconvened the meeting following executive session and

COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
Juror Cecelia Broussard thanked those who assisted with the grant
preparation for street improvements throughout the Parish.
