LEGISLATION
Mr. Bowen Miller addressed the Jury on a matter identified as the
“Declaration of Local Agricultural Emergency”. He presented that the
declaration is a citizen response to the alleged failure of the
executive branch to abide by and execute congressionally enacted
laws. He continued by stating that the present economic emergency
was in part a consequence of a severe disparity between prices of
agriculture and other commodities, which disparity has largely
destroyed the purchasing power of farmers for industrial products
and seriously impaired the agricultural assets supporting the
national credit structure. Ultimately Mr. Miller requests the Jury
instruct the Attorney General to investigate the apparent abdication
by the Executive Branch of the Federal Government regarding
compliance with existing laws. This declaration would also direct
the Governor, the Commissioner of Agriculture and the Legislative
Auditor to participate.
A motion was offered by Mr. Pat Daigle, seconded by Mr. John Beard,
to respectfully request a written position from the Acadia Parish
Farm Bureau on the matter presented by Mr. Bowen Miller related to
the “Declaration of Local Agricultural Emergency. Motion carried.
