The Acadia Parish Police Jury is now accepting applications at
        the Crowley Job Center, 11 North Parkerson Street, Crowley, LA, until
        12:00 Noon on

2 - MAINTENACE TECHNICIAN "D"
Location - Branch Barn; Starting Pay $8.00

        Applicants should have knowledge of the principles and practices of
        operating and servicing specialized construction and maintenance equipment;
        skills in the operation of several types of specialized automotive equipment.   

       

                                        JOB DESCRIPTION
 

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN "D", "C", "B" & "A"
 

NATURE OF WORK

This is skilled maintenance and construction work involving the operation of specialized equipment. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of complicated machinery in the transportation of men and materials in performance of complex maintenance and construction activities. Employees of this class receive specific assignments and general supervision as to work requirements, but work is performed with considerable independence. A supervisor will regularly check the work performed for quality, quantity and safety operation. Supervision may be exercised over a group of unskilled workers or refuse workers assigned to a specific task.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

(NOTE: These examples are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed in positions allocated to this class. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment of the position.)

Drives or operates equipment characterized as heavy or moderately heavy, such as tractor-back-hoe front end loader, gradall, tractors with mowers, tractors with ditching capabilities, and motor grader; may operate less complex equipment as needed; provides routine maintenance to vehicle or equipment; reports serious mechanical difficulties for repairs; adjusts equipment as needed for specialized operations requiring a high degree of accuracy; clears and digs drainage ditches; cuts and grades road ways; performs manual labor as required; may instruct other equipment operators; may supervise a labor crew occasionally and operate highway licensed vehicles; operate 2 ½ ton truck and trailer for transporting equipment.

Participates in construction and maintenance activities related to assigned equipment or as directed.

Services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment; reports need for maintenance or repair; assists mechanics in repair work when needed.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing specialized construction and maintenance equipment.

Considerable knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing automotive equipment operation.

Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment.

Working knowledge of the geography of the parish.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Skill in the operation of several types of specialized automotive equipment.

Physical strength and ability sufficient to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions.

REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Considerable experience in operating moderately complex equipment including some experience with particular equipment to be operated.

Must possess a valid Louisiana Drivers License or Class A or B CDL.

NEW HIRES

New hires should start in the "D" classification.  However, a new hire having years of experience may be considered for a higher classification.

EVALUATIONS

Semi-annual evaluations will be conducted for new employees. Upon one year of employment, evaluations will be conducted annually. Room for advancement is possible with promotions to Maintenance Technician "C", "B" and "A" depending on skills, experience and evaluations.

Pay Scale:
(effective January 1, 2005)

Maintenance Technician "A" = $9.91- up
Maintenance Technician "B" = $9.11-$9.90//hour
Maintenance Technician "C" = $8.36-$9.10/hour
Maintenance Technician "D" = $7.49-$8.35/hour

Submitting Your Application

Applications must be completed in accordance with directions.  Misrepresent-
ation and incomplete or inaccurate information may cause application
rejection, removal from the employment pool, or discharge from Parish
employment.

Status of Your Application

Applications submitted to the Acadia Parish Police Jury remain active and on
file for six months and are available for updating by the applicant during this
period.  If after that time period you have not received notification of your
application status, you may call our office at (337) 788-8800, to re-activate
your application for another six months.

Hiring Process

All applications are available for review by other departments when openings
become available.

All job offers to applicants will be conditioned upon successful completion
of various pre-employment tests and/or physical examination.
